There's no real good answer to your question. Player A will says X & Y are the best, Player B will say "you noob, everyone knows its Z & Q"! It also makes a difference whether you're playing PvE or PvP.
Generally I think furious swords of fortitude with 15^50 have the most votes, shields, well, +30HP and -2 stance or -5/20% are the usual suspects there I'd say. |

Depends on what you are doing, what enemies you are facing, if you are fighting or running, etc.
No really good answer. Have a variety on hand to meet different conditions. |

As a general rule, weapons that do elemental damage are good against melee fighters and casters other than elementalists (and certain mesmer builds); weapons that do physical damage (slashing, blunt, piercing, etc.) are good against rangers and ele's, since those profs have extra armor vs elemental damage. Keep in mind, too, that many profs have skills which counter various types of damage, either for the caster or for the whole group (within a certain area). That's why, as quickmonty says, you should have a variety on hand and use the quick-switch feature as needed.
As for shields, the standard is + health and - received damage (while enchanted/hexed, in a stance, xx%). Shields that have condition duration reductions (poison, bleeding, crippled, etc. reduced 20%) or +AL vs various types of damage (piercing, lightning, etc) can also be useful if you know what type of enemies you might expect to encounter. |

For PvE?
Generally speaking, [wiki]Victo's Blade[/wiki] and the Serrated Shield, or some similar green (after all, a PvE warrior should always be stanced). PvP, just spawn a whole bunch of swords (I use 15^50, +30hp base) and shields. Vampiric, sundering, elemental, zealous sword sets, then reduce X condition, +30 health shields, and some +10al vs X shields if you really wanna.
